A murder mystery you can play all in one place or remotely

A chocolate company hits hard times after its latest product fails. Who should take the blame? And who will survive? With 8-14 people, everyone has a character to play (some of them may share the main role). With more than 14, some just observe and work out whodunit.

The Chocolate Bar Mystery

A murder mystery you can play as a group all in one space or via video chat platforms like Facetime and Zoom

Grabshaws has been making and selling confectionary for years without any trouble. But when 10,000 children become ill after eating its latest chocolate bar, suddenly the company is in crisis. Can it survive? And, as one of its senior managers, will you?

Set in 1926, this fun, fast-moving game usually lasts around 90 minutes. Anything from 8 – 20 people can play it. Of these, up to 14 can play characters (some sharing the big main role) and everyone else observes what the characters get up to before accusing at the end. From the feedback we get, these observers still have plenty to entertain them.

The Chocolate Bar Mystery is mostly scripted but there is still room for some people to make things up/improvise. With plenty of plot twists along the way, it provides an interesting  and entertaining mystery to solve.

If you aren’t able all to meet up in someone’s home or office or at a venue, you will need a video chat/conferencing platform like Zoom, Facetime or Houseparty so you can play the game remotely. We recommend you allow yourself some time before the game starts to get to grips with the technology and share some information about it with your guests. You will need a minimum of 15 minutes for this and should give yourself more time to prepare if you have it. Ideally, you’ll send information to people a day or several days in advance. This will help build excitement and mean that anyone who wants to dress in character can do so.

How is the game delivered?
This game is available as a downloadable Zip folder which we give you a link to. This should reach you within one hour by email but can sometimes take longer. Sometimes our emails end up in  spam/junk so do please check them. If you have any problems with the link then contact us c/o mmgames[insert @ here]mayhem.org.uk.

The game is for one use only so, if you run the game again, you will need to buy it again. And it’s for private use only: it’s not for other companies to sell or make money out of unless they obtain a commercial licence from us.

Age Groups This Plot Suits

The content in The Chocolate Bar Mystery avoids bad language and  crudity. Some of its characters behave badly, though. They lie. They cheat on their partners. Also, those attending will need to pay attention to what’s going on, if they are to get the most out of it. This shouldn’t be a problem for anyone 12 or older, because there is so much to entertain them. Children under 12 may become restless, though. So it’s a game we think is best suited to those aged 12 or older.

Hire an actor

Virtual game: you can run our murder mystery without our help but if you’d like one or two professional actors to run your game remotely for you, please contact us c/o mmgames[insert @ here]mayhem.org.uk

You will still need to take care of the technical side but one of us will join you to play the big lead role and run the game for you. We’re based in the UK so this option won’t be available in every time zone. The price will vary according to how many of you there are and how long we are needed for. Expect to pay around £250 per actor in the UK, around $450 in the US and the rest of the world.

Same space game: If you’d like a professional actor to run your game for you in your home or office or at a venue, please look at Option 2 on Downloadable Murder Mysteries with a Professional Actor. If you’d like a professional events company to put together the whole party for you, please look at Option 3, We Do Everything For You, on the same page. But please remember: we’re based in London in the UK. The further from our base we go, the more we charge.
